Extraordinary Outbound Student

Ben McConnell is on his way to Brazil as a Rotary Youth Exchange Student. He leaves July 26th. Ben will be gone for one full year and will be attending school,learning a new language and culture.
What makes this exchange so unique is that Ben is blind. He is one of very few, if any, blind students to become a Rotary Youth Exchange Student.
Ben will be a great Ambassador for Canada and for Rotary.
Good Luck Ben, and have a great exchange!

The Rotary Club of Spruce Grove is Ben's sponsoring club. They will also host Mel, a young, partially blind,female exchange student from Brazil. Thanks to the Rotary Club of Spruce Grove and to Mike Birdsell for the many hours devoted towards making these two exchanges possible.

Some of our 2004-05 Outbound students and some Rotex enjoyed a BBQ as a last chance to be together before leaving for parts unknown.
Parents also attended.

Ben McConnell Exchange - He's Off!

5:45 am Monday morning (August 23) Ben passed through security on the first steps of his 28 hour journey to Recife, Brazil. Ben was calm as usual, but the group on hand to wish him "Bon Voyage" was just a little nervous.

In this picture with Ben is Mel Dias, our inbound student from Brazil, who arrived in time to meet Ben.

Thanks to the Rotary Club of Spruce Grove, Mike Birdsell, Janice and Jessica Scalzo for making this exchange work. It took a lot of extra planning, but Ben is off for Brazil.
Joel Semeniuk Presentation @ Parkland Rotary Club

Joel Semeniuk, Edmonton South Rotary Club's Rotary International Outbound Exchange Student for 2003 - 2004 to Australia made a presentation of his exchange experience to the St. Albert Parkland Rotary Club on Tuesday August 24.
Not only was Joel's presentation well received, but he was honoured to have the District 5370 Youth Exchange Committee Chair, Yvonne Bull in attendance. Ms. Bull commended Joel on his presentation and the excellent job he did as ambassador for our District 5370 and the Rotary International Student Exchange Program.
